Dr. Alex Earle, PURE Plastic Surgery, Miami

Having appropriate BMI for surgery is very important because there is a correlation between BMI and complications. As the BMI becomes greater and greater, the risk for complications also increases. These can be risks such as pulmonary or respiratory issues, infection, wound healing problems, and clots. So here at Pure Plastic Surgery, we have different BMI requirements, which are specific for the procedure.

VBL has a max and minimum BMI in order for optimal results. So the max BMI is 30, the minimum BMI is somewhere around 22. Any less than that, you’re not going to have enough fat to transfer. For liposuction alone or a high def lipo, we can go a little bit lower in that BMI range, somewhere around 20 or 21 is still okay. And if we’re talking about tummy tucks and mommy makeovers, we can go up a little bit higher to a max BMI of about 32.

So, BMI refers to the relationship between your height and your weight. It’s a little bit of a complex formula, but the easiest thing to do is to go to our website and find the BMI calculator. You will then input your height, input your weight, and it’ll tell you what your BMI is at that time.
