Eddie Murphy to play Donkey in a Shrek

Eddie Murphy is interested in making an ass of himself again, showing a desire to play Donkey in another Shrek movie.

Eddie Murphy is ready to make waffles once again, as he has expressed interest in reprising his role as Donkey in the Shrek franchise.

Eddie Murphy discussed bringing back Donkey to Etalk, saying, “I’d absolutely be open if they ever came with another Shrek, I’d do it in two seconds. I love Donkey.” Murphy says they have continued the franchise via Puss in Boots…but Murphy believes the series should have been centered on his beloved ass. “They did Puss In Boots10 movies. I thought, They should have made a Donkey movie. Puss in Boots is more funny than Donkey. Although I love Puss in Boots, he isn’t as funny as Donkey.”

But Eddie Murphy says that Dreamworks has the final say if they want Donkey and Shrek to be reunited. “They must want to do it. Dreamworks, if you want to do it, call me. I’m ready, I’m sitting and ready to do Donkey.” Yeah, so was that dragon, apparently…

Now may be the best time of all to capitalize on Eddie Murphy reviving Donkey and the Shrek franchise on his terms, as he has reprised two (well, five) of his other most beloved characters just this decade. Murphy will be reprising his four roles in the 2021 Coming To America sequel Coming Two America Murphy also has the fourth entry in Beverly Hill Cop series, Beverly Heights Cop: Axel Foley which will be out in 2024. This may be the inspiration for Shrek : Donkey. We, too, may be in the middle of an Eddie Murphy renaissance, as the comedian recently took home the much-deserved Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes.
